Big changes and great accomplishments have their roots in small things:
A child with a dream of helping the victims of Katrina saved one thousand pennies, and adults were moved to match her contribution.
Steven Spielberg's epic films like "Schindler's List" and "The Color Purple" had their roots in Steven's childhood when he produced movie shorts in his home.
Olympic Gold Medal Champion, Jackie Joyner Kersey, had big dreams but she focused on improving herself just 1% each day.
Whether you want to make a change in your life, help others accomplish their dreams or make a positive difference in this world, the ripples from small things you toss into the big pond of life, create change.
I was reminded of this the other day when I saw an acquaintance of mine, Janis Cooke Newman, who is the author of Mary, a new historical novel about Mary Todd Lincoln. Several months ago while listening to CSPAN's BookTV, I heard former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder, now the President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers, rave about this new book she was reading, called Mary.
I immediately emailed Janis to ask her if she had heard the good news. She hadn't. Neither had her publishers. And I remember telling Janis the program Pat Schroeder was on and that I thought she could get a transcript of it.
When I saw Janis the other day, she told me that after learning about Pat Schroeder's comments, she purchased a DVD copy of the program, shared the good news with her publisher and through a series of small events, she's developed a strong connection with Pat Schroeder who will be introducing her at a big event in Washington, D.C.
Small things make a difference and they ripple far beyond you. What small things are you going to toss into your big pond of life?
